The Nationals Member for Shepparton District Kim O’Keeffe is encouraging eligible applicants to apply for the 2024 Young Farmers Upskill and Invest Scholarship.
The scholarship offers up to $10,000 per scholarship, with up to $5,000 for study and up to an additional $5,000 available for professional development, business planning, or on-farm activities. The scholarship is designed to be flexible and to accommodate the demands and ambitions of young farmers and farm workers.
“Since it began in 2015, 117 young farmers have been awarded scholarships. This program supports the next generation of agricultural leaders in our region by providing them with the resources to expand their expertise and practical experience.”
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Aged between 18 and 35 at the time of the application close date.
- Working in a food and fibre farm business in Victoria at least three days per week for the past three months.
- Have at least two years of total experience on-farm.
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident currently residing in Victoria.
Applications will be considered for any form of study or training relevant to developing a career in agriculture, including professional short courses or workshops. Eligible study or training must be a minimum of 16 contact hours and delivered by a registered training organisation (RTO) or another reputable organisation approved by the department.
“I encourage all those who are eligible in the Shepparton District to apply for this scholarship. It is an excellent opportunity to gain new skills, invest in your career, and contribute to the future of agriculture in the Goulburn Valley.”
“Our region is the food bowl of Australia, and it’s so important that we continue to invest in the skills and knowledge of our young farmers to maintain and grow our agricultural sector.”
Applications for the 2024 Young Farmers Scholarship Program will close at 5pm on Monday, 17 June 2024.
