Kim O’KEEFFE (Shepparton) (14:36): (1726) My question is to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and the information I seek is regarding the timeframe for the roadwork repairs. That includes the many potholes on the GV and Hume highways that are currently in the worst and most dangerous and appalling condition. Currently the response to address this is flashing warning signs saying ‘Potholes for the next 20 kilometres’ in two sections. Hundreds of drivers have hit these dangerous potholes, damaging their cars and being unable to continue to drive their vehicles. A young woman, Emily, who had hit a pothole on a dangerous bend on the Goulburn Valley Highway, contacted me. She was stranded in the dark and rain for 4 hours, fearing that a truck or passing vehicle would collide with her or her car. Her tyre was completely shredded and the alloy wheel badly damaged. She faces costs of over $2000. Freer’s tow truck company towed 74 vehicles in just seven days. It is an absolute disgrace and is putting lives at risk.
