The Nationals’ Member for Shepparton District, Kim O’Keeffe, has called on the Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Gabrielle Williams, to provide answers as to when the traffic lights will be turned on at the Wyndham and MacIntosh Street intersection in Shepparton.
“Our community was told by the Allan Labor Government that these lights would be activated following the completion of Stage 3 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade.
“Given that the project was completed in December last year, the lights have been sitting inactive and covered up for the last five years.
“As everyone knows in the community, this is a very busy intersection on a major road and continues to cause driver confusion and safety concerns,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
Ms O’Keeffe urged in questioning the Minister for Transport Infrastructure in Parliament this week, that this issue is a matter of “community safety”.
“The intersection is a very busy intersection and very difficult to navigate for pedestrians, it is critical to also have the pedestrian crossing functioning at the lights, which is also part of the activation.
“Now that the Shepparton Line Upgrade is completed, the Minister and government need to turn these lights as the community was promised five years ago and provide the additional weekday and weekend services.
“This is just ridiculous and an unacceptable situation. The Shepparton Line Upgrade was promised to be completed back in 2023 and only completed in December 2025 two years over the scheduled timeframe, and we still have further ongoing delays.
“What we need is for these lights to be turned on and increased services delivered as promised.
“Only the Nationals and Liberals will deliver regional Victoria its fair share.
