Regional Victorians are being urged to snap pictures of the worst potholes in the state in a new competition to put more pressure on the Allan Labor Government to take proper action and improve the appalling and unsafe state of regional roads.
The Nationals and Liberals are running a statewide photo competition with the worst potholes to feature in a 2025 “Potholes for All Seasons” calendar that will be presented to Premier Jacinta Allan and Roads and Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne later this month.
The Nationals’ Member for Shepparton District, Kim O’Keeffe, said Victoria’s roads had been going backwards for years due to Labor’s road maintenance budget cuts and neglect.
“Right across our region we know our roads are in appalling and unsafe condition and every single day cars are being damaged, and lives put at risk.
“The government’s own data showed road maintenance works in regional Victoria plummeted by 95 per cent last financial year, a shocking indictment on their care for regional roads.
“It shouldn’t come as any surprise that a government survey last year found 91 per cent of roads analysed were in poor or very poor condition.
“Our cars must be roadworthy, but our roads are far from car-worthy, and the condition of regional roads is now the biggest safety concern for motorists.”
Ms O’Keeffe said the “Potholes for All Seasons” calendar should be hung on the office wall of the Premier and the Minister for Roads and Road Safety as a daily reminder of the Allan Labor Government’s absolute neglect and disregard of regional road users.
“They need to get out into the regional areas and experience what it is actually like driving on our dangerous unsafe roads and we’ll be bringing the finest potholes directly to them on Spring St in calendar form,” she said.
“As regional Victorians we must keep the pressure on the government to fix our roads and you can do that by uploading pics of the worst potholes you come across. This is also another way to really showcase the enormity of the issue.”

Motorists should only take photos of roads where they can do so safely and without putting other road users at risk.
