The Nationals Member for Shepparton, Kim O’Keeffe, reflects on what has been an action-packed weekend across the region full of amazing events for residents of the Shepparton District.
“Last weekend’s events across our region and their success have resulted in a tremendous economic boost for our region and its people, with motels being booked out with tourists enjoying our hospitality and the benefits to our local businesses,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“It all started with Converge on the Goulburn at Shepparton’s Victoria Park Lake on Friday night, where I was able to attend and experience firsthand the amazing food, entertainment, stalls, music and children’s activities that was on offer for all ages of life.
“Tatura on Saturday held their Top End Market Day at Lagozzino’s Top Pub Car Park in Hogan Street, where locals and tourists were treated to market and food stalls as well as a sausage sizzle. Whilst I was in Tatura on Saturday, I also visited Husslin Auto Detailing’s 13th Birthday Show ‘n’ Shine Celebration, where there over 100 fabulous cars on display.
“This is another example of a local business in our region that continues to succeed in business,” she said.
Mooroopna played host to the Junior CFA / VFBV Firefighter State Championships where Ms O’Keeffe visited. “It was so wonderful to see so many young people involved and participating in their brigades displaying their firefighting skills across a variety of different events. This event on our region’s calendar emphasises the importance of Mooroopna and our region playing host to this event,” she said.

For the first time in 23 years, Shepparton played host to the George Nelson Shepparton Gift event at the Shepparton Showgrounds. Ms O’Keeffe said, “it was so exciting to see such a high calibre of athletes that were competing on the day and well done to everyone involved in getting this event back to Shepparton”.
Sunday wrapped up what been an action-packed weekend, with the Shepparton Albanian Harvest Festival taking place in Queens Garden Shepparton. Ms O’Keeffe said “it was a fantastic day out for all, there was great food, live entertainment and a range of activities for the children on the day. Most importantly, it was so wonderful to see so many people attending from wide and far. Credit to all those involved in making this event such a success for everyone in attendance.”

Today is also the start of Harmony Week which Ms O’Keeffe said, “Harmony Week is such an important week of the year as we are able to recognise our diversity in order to bring everyone from all different backgrounds together.”
