The Nationals’ Member for Shepparton District, Kim O’Keeffe, has urged the Allan Labor Government to prioritise and repair the most unsafe and damaged roads in the regions that are putting lives at risk.
In the 2025/26 Victorian State Budget, the Allan Labor Government invested $976 million in regional roads funding designated to fix potholes and resurface roads.
“We know that this figure will fall short on meeting the demand needed. I want to ensure that we get our fair share of funding to fix our dangerous crumbling roads.
“The current state of our roads are appalling, and people are feeling unsafe on our roads because of it,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
Despite the Allan Labor Government claiming record amounts on roads, Labor’s own budget papers show a shocking 93 per cent reduction in roads patching and a further 14 per cent cut on resealing and rehabilitation.
“The government’s own data showed that 91 per cent of roads surveyed were either in poor or very poor condition and this figure recently announced by Labor highlights the critical need to fix our roads.
“We are seeing the direct impact of these cuts on our roads and the government must ensure that the money is being spent on quality road repairs and road maintenance.
“There is a lot to catch up in repairing our roads and the government should be investing more and not less.”
Ms O’Keeffe has called on the Allan Labor Government to provide a breakdown of what roads in the Shepparton electorate have works pending and calling for road repairs on the many dangerous roads across the electorate.
“For a so-called better roads blitz, our region deserves to know the answers as to where this money is being spent to fix potholes and resurface our already depleted regional roads.
“Labor can’t manage money, can’t manage our roads and Victorians are paying the price.
