The Nationals’ Member for Shepparton District, Kim O’Keeffe, has slammed the Allan Labor Government’s “so-called” regional roads blitz as it has nowhere near addressed the appalling and unsafe conditions of roads across the Shepparton District.
Ms O’Keeffe said that whilst the electorate has seen some road repairs happening, there is still a significant shortfall across the region.
“This past week, I put up on Facebook a post of a dangerous pothole just outside of McDonald’s Shepparton South on Wyndham Street as well as calling on the community to highlight more roads that have been neglected by Labor.
“It was no surprise that there was a significant amount of our roads in appalling condition. We all see it whilst travelling around our road network and the level of damage and neglect is irresponsible which in effect is putting lives at risk”, Ms O’Keeffe said.
Whilst the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Melissa Horne, spruiks the amount of road repairs completed by the Allan Labor Government, she has clearly not listened to the calls for more investment into the current unsatisfactory and unsafe conditions of our regional roads.
“As a region, we have had very little of the $976 million included in the recent State Budget, designated to regional roads and maintenance. The Allan Labor Government continues to cut roads maintenance and repairs.
“I have highlighted many of our crumbling stretches of road for well over the past 12 months.
“Constituents are feeling unsafe when travelling on our roads and angry about the cost of repairs to the damage of their vehicles.
“The Minister is responsible for maintaining our roads and to keep our communities safe on the roads. Clearly that is not happening.
“I have consolidated a list of the many unsafe roads across the electorate in poor condition and with dangerous potholes for the Minister urging her to fix our roads before lives are lost as a matter of urgent.
“The Allan Labor Government have their priorities all wrong and road safety should be a priority.
“Labor can’t manage money, can’t manage our roads and regional Victorians are paying the price.”
