New data from the Crime Statistics Agency has revealed the Allan Labor Government’s failure to address Victoria’s growing crime crisis, with crime rates significantly increasing across the state.
The latest statistics show that, for the 12 months to 30 June 2024, Greater Shepparton experienced a rise in total criminal incidents by 7.9 per cent, while Moira Shire saw an increase of 7.2 per cent.
The Nationals Member for Shepparton District, Kim O’Keeffe, said these statistics are a wake-up call for the Allan Labor Government, which has failed to address the issues of crime affecting regional Victoria.
“People in Greater Shepparton and Moira Shire want to feel safe in their homes and on their streets and local business owners are frustrated by ongoing break-ins, but these statistics show the Government isn’t doing enough,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“The government have failed bail reform and negotiations to secure a fair pay deal for front line Victorian Police officers.
“Instead of taking action the government has slashed the community crime prevention budget by 46 per cent and shut down the crime prevention unit within the department of justice and community safety.
“What we really need is a fair pay deal and resources for our police so that they have the support they need to keep our communities safe.
“It’s clear that Labor can’t manage community safety, and regional Victorians are paying the price.”
